KARACHI: Custom officials discovered and seized mobile phones worth Rs 6 million, being smuggled into the country, from the Turbat International Airport on Friday. Gwadar Model Customs Collectorate’s Collector of Customs Saeed Akram had earlier directed officials to stay vigilant against the potential smuggling of phones and goods into the country. As per instructions, officials carried out inspections of baggage arriving from Sharjah by PIA flight No PK-194. Three suspected suitcases were taken into custody from the passenger baggage hall from which staff discovered 548 foreign origin mobile phones of assorted brands. The phones were estimated to be worth a collective Rs 6 million. No one came forward to claim ownership of the mobile phones though authorities have registered an FIR of the case with efforts being made to arrest the culprits.
