ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Friday confirmed death sentences awarded to 14 hardcore terrorists involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The terrorists were involved in attacking armed forces and law enforcement agencies, killing innocent civilians and were behind destruction of educational institutions and the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Hotel Malam Jabba. They were involved in killing of 22 persons including three civilians, 19 armed forces and police personnel and injuring 23 others. “Arms and explosives were also seized from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts. Besides the death penalty, eight convicts have also been awarded imprisonment,” reads the statement. Rehman Ali, Rehmat Ali, Saif ur Rehman and Fazal Mabood, members of a proscribed organization, were involved in destruction of an educational institution and attacking armed forces/law enforcement agencies, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Hanif along with seven soldiers, a civilian and injuries to 12 others.
