RAWALPINDI: Rifts remain between the bureaucracy and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership over anti-encroachment campaign in Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Arif Abbasi on Thursday expressed displeasure on demolition of PTI’s Member of National Assembly plaza despite the matter being subjudice. In the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, the officials of RDA have partially demolished the top two floors of Minara Tower at Grand Trunk Road. According to RDA officials, the top floors of the building were constructed illegally. The operation was headed by the assistant director Atif Chaudhary. PTI MNA Khiyal Zaman Orakzai, elected from NA-33 Hangu, is the owner of Minara Tower. During the operation, Khiyal Zaman approached the RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi to stop the operation. Arif Abbasi called the field staff to stop the operation but they did not obey the chairman’s order and partially demolished the building. Abbasi has expressed displeasure on demolition of PTI MNA’s plaza despite the matter being subjudice. This has not happened for the first time. Published in Daily Times, October 26th 2018.
