Sindh Chief Secretary (CS)Mumtaz Ali Shah directed Public Health Engineering (PHE) secretary to ensure the completion of Thar’s water supply schemes as early as possible. He also asked for a detailed report on functional reverse osmosis (RO) plants in Thar. Presiding over a high level meeting on Thar Development Programme (TDP), CS Shah advised the secretaries of Agriculture, Health, Irrigation, Education, Forest and Livestock and Planning and Development (P&&D) departments to examine water supply schemes in consultation with Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) and relevant departments of Karachi University (KU) and present a report regarding them in ten working days. Moreover, the meeting reviewed thewater plan for Thar coal field and discussed details regarding the hydrogeological system, water supply and waste water management studies. The meeting was informed by Irrigation Secretary Jamal Mustafa that 617 RO plants were functional in Thar while 217 plants were expected to be completed by December 15, 2018. “After December, 834 RO plants would be functional in addition to other water supply schemes,” he told the meeting.”Currently 40 water supply schemes are functional and 31 are being completed,” he added.
