Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah on Monday said that the ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), performance had been exposed in recently held by-polls. Shah statement came a day after the PTI lost three National Assembly seats it had bagged on July 25. Talking to media, Shah said hurling allegations at others could not help country come out of economic crisis. “Tax rates are increasing, dollar is strengthening against rupee and businesses are shutting down. The government has announced a failed economic policy and the debt has increased owing to the rise in dollar’s value,” he said. He added that the economy could not be fixed by hurling expletives, adding that fear had gripped the nation regarding the economic situation. He alleged that the government was intimidating opponents through the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Federal Board of Revenue Taking a hit at Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Naya Pakistan Housing Programme, Shah said, “It is a drama and beyond understanding. It will be a bigger mistake than the Ashiana Housing scheme.” How will a man who earns Rs 3,000 pay back a loan of Rs 1.5 million?” he asked. Published in Daily Times, October 16th 2018.
