LAHORE: The launching ceremony of Dr Amjad Parvez’s book titled Melody Singers I was held at Alhamra, under the aegis of Lahore Arts Council on Thursday. A ceremony was attended by WCLA DG Kamran Lashari, former information minister Parvez Rasheed, Dr Asghar Nadeem Syed, Captain (r) Atta Muhammad Khan, Dr Sughra Sadaf, Taranum Naz, Dr Ghazala Irfan and people from different walks of life. A folk singer Shaukat Ali has also performed at event. Dr Amjad Parvez, while talking exclusively to Daily Times said that music had been his passion since childhood and so he started his career from Radio Pakistan as a child artist in 1954. After that, he served in many professions on different posts. He said that this one was his first in-depth work in which 25 singers and general articles on traditional music from 1950-80 era had been discussed. He told that Malika Tarranum Noor Jahan, Iqbal Bano, Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan, Ustad Zakir Ali Khan, Ghulam Jaffar Khan, Ustad Barray Ghulam Ali Khan, Humera Channa, Naseem Begum, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna De, Hari Haran and others were covered in the book. Melody Singers I is the sixth bibliography of Parvez after Symphony of Reflections 2006, Rainbow of Reflections, Melody Makers and two other. Parvez is not only a writer but also an educationist, signer, musician and also an engineer by profession. He has also served on many major posts as a general manger, chief engineer, and vice president of many divisions as well as the managing director of Nespak. He has also been awarded with the Pride of Performance in 2000 for his immense contributions to music and Dr AQ Khan Lifetime Achievement award in 2010 from the Institute of Engineers, Pakistan.
