A Pashto mushaira was organised under the auspices of the Landi Kotal press club on Sunday to promote the tribal region’s rich legacy of art, culture and raise awareness amongst the general public about its dying bequest. Around 25 renowned poets including Tawab Shah Masroor,Naamdar Afridi,Nisar Afkar,Haris Shinwari,Sameen Pathan,Habibullah, Meenwal Shinwari and others recited their poetic pieces at the beginning of the function, and received a great round of applause from the audience. Besides, a number of literary personalities from the tribal areas attended the event. Meanwhile, poets stressed on the need to outline and project certain aspects of tribal art and culture. Landi Kotal sub-division Assisant Commissioner (AC) Muhammad Imran was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas the renowned Pashto poet Yar Hussain Sahel Afridi presided over the event. In his talk on the occasion, AC Muhammad Imran said that poets and writers have been preserving art and culture ever since evolution of the society. He asserted that the Hamza Baba Library at the mausoleum of the renowned Pashto poet Ameer Hamza Khan Shinwari would soon be made functional to boost literary activities in the tribal region. He further assured assistance for poets to enhance their literary works in an effective manner. Later, he lauded the press club for organised such an event, and said that media persons have been rendering their professional duties and covering extra-activities actively for betterment of the society. The senior journalist Khalil Jibran, who telecasted the programme live on the social media, said that poets were sensitive portion of our society, and they have been addressing critical issues of the society through their poetic art and writings.
