Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) political activists on Sunday organised a demonstration against a lack of basic necessities including housing, childcare, food, transportation and healthcare in Landi Kotal town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Reportedly, scores of PPP workers chanted full-throat slogans while holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands, and marched from Bacha Khan Square to a local press club. Meanwhile, the rally converted into a public gathering. While addressing the general public, PPP local leaders, People Students Federation (PSF) and People Youth Federation (PYF) representatives including Haji Altaf, Rauf Khalid and Shah Rehman said that dwellers of the region have been deprived of healthcare facilities, potable water and electricity. “The Agency Headquarter Hospital has been in a dilapidated condition, and patients and their family members continued to suffer,” they said, adding that residents were forced to purchase water at Rs 60 per barrel from private tankers due to water scarcity in the region. They stated that power was being supplied for only two hours a day which in turn has brought life to a standstill. Protesters further criticised district administration and the Member of Parliament elected from the constituency of Landi Kotal-Jamrud for turning a blind eye to such critical issues. They appealed to the concerned authorities to resolve the issues on the priority basis. Published in Daily Times, October 8th 2018.
