The Anti-Corruption Establishment’s (ACE) branch in Gujranwala arrested 31 officers including four gazetted officers during the last month of September, and recovered Rs 400,000 from several suspects. Reportedly, ACE Regional Director Sheikh Fareed Ahmed told the media that a citizen Muhammad Junaid filed an application accusing Muhammad Kazim of taking Rs300,000 as bribe from him for a job. Another citizen Shabir Alvi alleged that Sub-Inspector Mehmoodul Hassan of the Daska police station had registered a bogus FIR (first information report) against his brother, and took bribe from him. Another citizen Muhammad Bashir filed an application accusing a reader Munawar Hussain of taking a bribe of Rs40,000 from him to rectify his property record. Initial investigations suggested sufficient evidences against accused persons, and consequently ACE teams arrested Kazim and registered cases against SI Mehmoodul Hassan and reader Munawar Hussain. Two dead in separate road accidents Two people lost their lives on Sunday in fatal accidents in Gujranwala. Reportedly, a motorcyclist Abdul Jabbar, resident of Chehal Kalan, was on his way when a tractor-trolley rammed into his motorcycle near Rahwali area. Resultantly, he died on the spot. In another incident, 10-year-old Asif was playing in a field when a harvesting machine ran over him and crushed him to death. Published in Daily Times, October 8th 2018.
