LAHORE: Chief Justice Saqib Nisar on Saturday took suo motu notice against private universities in the province of Punjab. A bench headed by the Chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) heard a case related to a degree not being given to a student of University of South Asia’s affiliate college. During the hearing, Punjab Advocate General was instructed by the court to submit a report about the details of universities and affiliated colleges in the province. However, Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) representative told the court that the private university had made affiliations with colleges without any permission. Justice Nisar stated that these universities are defrauding the people and destroying the education system. The CJP further said that criminal cases should be registered against those who are opening campuses without permission, adding that he will see who comes for their bail.
