Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over an inquiry into the killing of ten-year-old Amal in a ‘police encounter’. During the hearing, the top judge ordered formation of a judicial committee to probe into the circumstances leading to girl’s death. He also sought measures for improvement of medical facilities at hospitals. Meanwhile, victim’s father thanked the top judge for taking up the case and recalled the incident, saying, “A dacoit snatched my wife’s phone and bag on gun-point in Akhtar Colony, Karachi and fled the scene.” As soon as I started the car, we heard a gunshot and a bullet suddenly hit our windshield and severely injured my daughter, he continued. We took Amal to the hospital where doctors refused to treat her and also removed artificial respiratory pump after which, she succumbed to the injuries, they added. Subsequently, notices have been sent to the advocate-general, health secretary, inspector-general of police and NMC administrator in this regard. Published in Daily Times, September 26th 2018.
