Four members of a family were killed after a landslide them under debris on Monday in Mukhtar Khel village of Landi Kotal town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Reportedly, the deceased 40-year-old wife of Sikandar Khan and her three daughters including 16-year-old Aisha, 14-year-old Sawera and 10-year-old Bushra were digging out mud from a heap in a hilly area for the reparation and renovation of their house when a big chunk of land piece fell on them. They were trapped under the debris and eventually died. Meanwhile, local tribesmen rushed to the spot and retrieved their bodies after a one-hour rescue operation. Subsequently, their bodies were shifted to the Agency Headquarter Hospital in Landi Kotal where doctors declared them dead on arrival. According to locals, Sikandar works as a daily wager and had seven daughters and a minor son. Ironically, there is no official rescue service in Landi Kotal that can provide relief to people in crises or respond to any emergency situation, whereas majority of houses in the town and its adjoining tribal areas are made of stone and mud.
