The breeze is gradually beckoning autumn games Inside the gardens and through the lanes, Pouring into and whirling round All the leaves colored orange, red and brown Surging through each swaying tree, Shaking and letting apples fall till they are free. Gusting conkers until they drop And open broad and wide with a scratchy pop The wind is dancing in merriment and fun, Giggling in the golden autumn sun. It plummets acorns, leaves, oak nuts and fir cones Eventually creating a carpet under trees Published in Daily Times, September 25th 2018.
