ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi said that any expansion in the permanent seats of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is a “red line” for it. Participating in the Inter-governmental Negotiations on the Security Council reforms in the UN, Maleeha Lodhi said that such expansion of the UNSC would undermine the principles of democracy and accountability. She called for developing a clearer understanding of the red lines of all member states. She added that Pakistan’s approach has always been to address the fundamental questions on the reform. She said if these questions were addressed in an open, objective and pragmatic manner, the broad contours of a possible reform model would emerge quite easily.
