Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by Taliban in 2012 when her school bus came under attack but she miraculously survived the attack after hours of surgical treatment first in Pakistan and then in London. She had become a symbol for girls’ education and resistance against Taliban oppression in her native Swat long before the attack.
