ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting State Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that voting results of any constituency would be declared null and void if less than 10% of women in the area cast their votes. Addressing a ceremony on the protection of women on Thursday, she said concerted and integrated efforts were being made at both the federal and provincial levels to provide equal opportunities to the women. The minister added that the parliamentary committee framing electoral reforms had agreed to ensure greater participation of women in the electoral process. She informed that a quota was being allocated to enable women to contest elections on direct seats, pointing out that society was changing and becoming more receptive to the rights of women. Aurangzeb emphasised on education being key in the female empowerment. She pointed out that the government had launched an education reforms programme in the federal capital while a review of school curriculum was currently in process. She added that efforts were being made to create greater awareness on legislation related to women among the masses.
