Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that only democracy can guarantee a strong and prosperous Pakistan. This he said in his message on the occasion of World Democracy Day, which is observed across the world on September 15. PPP chairman said that democracy is the essence of history of mankind and despite the fact that democracy is the best form of government, it is still weak as compared to authoritarian forces in many countries of the world and especially in the third world. Bilawal Bhutto said that mankind is destined to overcome dictatorial rules and democracy would prevail. Furthermore, the PPP Chairman said that the challenges for both the public and democratic system are at their peak and the struggle for a better society based on equality and justice would go on. He said that besides the challenges, extremism and terrorism are two big menaces that have jeopardised the peace of the world and the country. “A handful of terrorists do not want to see the world embrace peace and tranquility since peace is tantamount to elimination of the extremist and terrorist forces,” he added. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated his resolve for transforming Pakistan into a real federal democratic Muslim role model state as per the ideology of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He vowed that PPP would take the struggle to its logical end and would not hesitate to make sacrifices. Chairman PPP also condemned terrorist bomb blasts in Pishin in which three Levies personnel lost their lives. The PPP Chairman offered condolences and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families of the martyrs who lost their lives in the blast. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said that nation can only defeat the monster of terrorism through unity. Later on Friday, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew called on Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House. Thomas Drew discussed the matters of mutual interests during the meeting. Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and Senator Sherry Rehman also participated in the meeting. Published in Daily Times, September 15th 2018.
