The Commissioner Gujranwala Division, Asad Ullah Faiz, on Friday, warned that there was a complete ban on keeping cattle in the urban areas and the cattle farmers should shift their cattle from the urban areas otherwise strict action would be taken against them. He told this while addressing a meeting in his office to review the arrangements to keep the city neat and clean. Deputy Commissioner Dr Shoaib Tariq Warriach, Assistant Commissioner City Hinna Arshad and other officers were also present in the meeting. The commissioner said that there were many complaints by the citizens that cows and buffaloes were usually seen roaming on the streets and at public places and cattle farmers disposed the animal waste into the sewerage which led to the choking of the sewerage system while heaps of cattle dung on the roadsides might also become a cause of dengue. The commissioner directed the deputy commissioner to impose Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code so that the urban areas could become cattle-free. The district administration had tried many times in the past to shift the buffaloes and cows out of the city area but it could not succeed because mostly the cattle farmers had political affiliations and the district administration had to stop the operation against them due to political pressure.
