The Education department and National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) on Saturday organised a gathering to mark the World Literacy Day in Jamrud town of Khyber district. Reportedly, education department director Hashim Khan Afridi, distrct education officer (DEO) Jadoon Wazir, NCHD general manger Muhammad Zahir Shah, district education program officer Fazal Wadood, principals and headmasters of various schools, a large number of students and their parents gathered at the Government High School No.2. In this regard, speakers including Hashim Khan Afridi, Zahir Shah, Jamdoon Wazir and others addressed participants, and termed education as ‘the basic right of every child’ while expressing profound concerns over one million out-of-school children in seven Tribal districts and six Frontier Regions. They urged parents to get their children enrolled in schools and appealed to members of civil society to join hands for a collective effort to improve literacy rate in the tribal areas. “Education is a light which leads to the right path,” they said. Meanwhile, Khyber district DEO initiated an enrolment drive by filling admission forms of students in the Community School of Husaykhola in Jamrud. Later, an awareness walk was carried out which culminated at Bab-e-Khyber. Chinese language programme inaugurated for tribal youth in Landi Kotal A Chinese language learning programme has been inaugurated in the Tatara Academy of Modern Languages and Technical Education in Gul Ahmad Kaley area of tehsil Landi Kotal on Friday. Reportedly, district education officer (DEO) Jadoon Wazi was present as the chief guest, while a large number of tribesmen, educationists, students and members of civil society also participated in the event. DEO shed light on the significance of learning Chinese language, and said that it was a ‘golden’ opportunity for tribal youths as it would unfold many opportunities for them in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
