HYDERABAD: An oil tanker en route to Moro from Karachi has overturned on Saturday near Hyderabad, spilling 40,000 litres oil. The driver, who was severely wounded and consequently taken to the hospital, supposedly dozed off leading the tanker to veer off from the Karachi-Hyderabad route and crash, sources revealed. M9 motorway police and rescue teams rushed to the crash site immediately taking the situation under control. The process to empty the tanker has started and officials have covered oil spillage with sand to prevent any mishap. “We have removed the caps from the oil tanker’s taps in order to prevent any gas forming inside,” an official said. Last month, an oil tanker that turned turtle in Bahawalpur caught fire and killed over 200 people, an incident marked as one of the worst in the country’s history. This is the seventh oil tanker related incident in a span of 15 days in the country.
