Following an informal consultation session, the Sindh chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) finalised the name of Firdous Shamim Naqvi for the post of leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly. According to PTI spokesman, Naqvi’s name has been sent to Prime Minister (PM) Khan for official approval. PTI is yet to officially appoint its opposition leader. Reportedly, the PTI legislators picked their opposition leader in an informal session out during a meeting was held at Molvi Mehmood’s residence in Defence. During the meeting, the PTI members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) were asked to pick between the proposed candidates for the post. The two candidates being considered were Shamim Naqvi and Haleem Adil Sheikh. During the informal poll process, 15 MPAs opted for Naqvi while 13 lawmakers sided with Haleem Adil Sheikh. According to sources, Naqvi, who is the party’s Karachi division president, has started consultation with opposition parties in Sindh. Earlier PTI was considering appointing Khurrum Sher Zaman as parliamentary leader of the party in Sindh due to harsh comments of Firdous regarding Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
