LAHORE: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has asked traders to forward suggestions to chalk out an outdoor advertisement policy in the provincial metropolis. The initiative has been taken on the directives of Lord Mayor Col (r) Mubashir Javaid. He had directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority during a meeting to take measures to beauty the city. The mayor had not only directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority for policy making but also asked suggestions from union councils chairmen in this regard. The mayor had expressed his desire to create uniformity in advertisement boards in respect of size and design. It’s pertinent to mention here that the advertisement policy for local shopkeepers is not part of “PHA Lahore Regulations 2013 in line with PHA Act and Punjab Outdoor Advertisement and Signboard Policy (POASP)”. According to the act, ‘Shop Board Sign’ means an outdoor advertisement installed on business building but not limited to shops, banks, petrol pumps, restaurants, hotels, clinics, private schools / colleges, display centres branded by national and multinational companies. Whereas in the clasue-8 ‘Shop Sign Charges’ declare that charges for shop signs will be levied and collected by the Parks and Horticulture Authority according to the rates and manner prescribed by the authority. Individual shopkeepers who have fixed boards at their shops are exempted from the payment of shop sign charges. However, the Parks and Horticulture Authority reserves the rights to regulate these board by imposition any levy. Talking to Daily Times, the Parks and Horticulture Authority Director General Mian Shakeel said, “We have invited traders for a meeting on this issue in the current week and after consultation with them, we will forward their suggestions to the Mayor’s Office by the end of this month. To a query, he said: “We are also revising their Outdoor Advertisement and Signboard Policy and likely to allow display LED and LCD screens for advertisement on main roads. Commenting on the issue, Shakeel added: “We have also take action against the illegal sign boards and more than 60 sign boards have been removed the area of Raiwind and on the both sides of Canal Road.
