LAHORE: Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Sunday stated that no increase in fares for railway passengers will be made as per the vision of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to accommodate needs of the public. The minister vowed that the condition of railways will be made better within 120 days and its debt would be brought down by the end of year 2018. He added that his target is to rehabilitate and improve the railways according to Imran Khan’s vision, adding that twenty thousand new studio apartments will be built for railway workers in order facilitate them properly. Furthermore, the minister also talked about installing three new elevators for the disabled and old citizens at the Lahore Railway Station and said that in future more elevators would be added at big railway stations across Pakistan. Sheikh Rasheed said that in order to generate more revenue media outlets and advertising companies would be invited for its publicity and branding. While responding to a question about oppositions candidate for the presidential elections, he said that it would be better if the opposition had a joint candidate. The minister added that he will demote those officers who got promoted by illegal means. Rasheed also instructed his administration to support National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in all cases related to railway.
