Pakistan Army Friday reshuffled its top hierarchy, replacing three important corps commanders. Commander Karachi Corps Lt Gen Shahid Baig Mirza has been transferred and posted at GHQ as inspector general communications and information technology. Lt Gen Humayun Aziz has been appointed as corps commander Karachi. He was earlier serving as inspector general communications and information technology. Corps Commander Rawalpindi Lt Gen Nadeem Raza has been appointed as chief of general staff (CGS) at the General Headquarters, which is considered number two position in the headquarters after the army chief. His predecessor Lt Gen Bilal Akbar has been posted as new corps commander of Rawalpindi. Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) Chairman Lt Gen Naeem Ashraf has been appointed as corps commander Multan, while his predecessor Lt Gen Abdullah Dogar has been appointed as new chairman of the HIT. Now the senior most officers of Pakistan Army who could be considered for the post of chief of army staff after the retirement of General Qamar Javed Bajwa in 2019 would be Lt Gen Sarfraz Sattar – currently holding the position of director general Strategic Plans Division – followed by Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Nadeem Raza, Corps Commander Karachi Lt Gen Humayun Aziz, Corps Commander Multan Lt Gen Naeem Ashraf, Lt Gen Sher Afghan and Lt Gen Qazi Ikram.
