The election for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker in the National Assembly will be held on Wednesday (today). On Tuesday, the candidates of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allies and the joint opposition submitted their nomination papers. Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser has submitted the nomination papers for the speaker’s office from PTI and its allied parties. Pakistan Peoples Party’s Khursheed Shah is the candidate of the joint opposition. For the post of deputy speaker, PTI and its allies have nominated MNA-elect from Quetta, Qasim Suri; and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s Asad Mehmood is the joint opposition’s candidate. The election for the offices will take place on August 15 (today). On Monday, newly elected MNAs and MPAs took oath in the National Assembly and three provincial assemblies. Outgoing NA speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath. This was followed by signing of the ‘Roll of Members’. Published in Daily Times, August 15th 2018.
