ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has promoted over a dozen Assistant Professors to Associate Professor. As per notification, a copy of which is available with Daily Times, the promotion of 13 Assistant Professors (BPS-18) with the approval of the Capital Administration and the Development Division (CA&DD). The promoted faculty members are serving in the different FG and Model Colleges of the capital under the supervision of the FDE. The notification reveals that Dr. Rumana Shah was Assistant Professor (BPS-18) in the Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) F-7/2 was promoted to the post of Associate Professor (BPS-19). She would have to serve in the same institution as Associate Professor. The post of Associate Professor was vacant for the last many years. After promotion, Dr.Sadia Rashid will serve in the IMCG G-10/4, against the post of Assistant Professor. Tasneem Raees and Rubina Mughal were also promoted on the same designation and will serve in the IMCG, F-7/4. However, as per notification, Tasneem Raees will have to perform on a temporary duty in the IMCG, I-14/13. Samina Naqvi’s posting remained the same in the IMCG, G-10/4, after her promotion as Associate Professor. Mussarat Naseer IMCG, F-7/ 2, will also be continued in the same institution after her promotion. Farzana Javed’s service will also remain intact in IMCG-F7/4. Fatima Parveen is transferred from IMCG, G-10/4 to IMCG, Humak. However, she will be functioning in the IMCG, I-8/3 on temporary basis. Another thee faculty members Samina Batool Malik, Nabila Rehan, Adeela Rashid will perform as Associate Professors in their same college known as IMCG, F-7/2. Like other promoted Associate Professors these three teachers will serve on the vacant positions in their respective colleges. Two faculty members Naheed Akhtar and Barjees Anwar are also included in the list of promoted Associate Professors. Their posting will remain in the IMCG, F-7/4 and IMCG, G-10/4 respectively. The prescribed criteria for the promotion of Assistant Professor at the post graduate college level is totally different from the university or degree awarding institute teachers promotions against such positions. As per service recruitment rules, five-year service tenure in the same grade is the basic requirement for the promotions of college teachers. However, it is not mandatory that he/she would get promoted in the next grade after the completion of five years tenure. Instead, the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) made decisions regarding this in accordance with the declared method. The DSB for the above promoted teachers was held in late 2015.
