LAHORE: Two Spanish basketball coaches — Javier Huertas and Javier Munoz — are giving training to 200 boys and girls in a four-day training camp which started at the Punjab Gymnasium here on Monday. Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBF) secretary general Khalid Bashir said on Tuesday that among the players who were receiving training, around 140 were poor but they impressed with their performance in the trials and they would get free training. “However, among the remaining 60 players, some will pay Rs.4000 and others Rs.2000 for training,” he added. He said all the players would get a kit including joggers worth Rs.20,000 each. “Last time the national federation also held the training camp which was totally free but many players disappeared after getting the kits,” he disclosed. “Therefore, the decision was taken to charge some fees from those who could afford it. Khalid said though the duration of the camp was short but it would be enough to bring improvement in the players as far as finer points of the game were concerned. Khalid said at the end the best players would also be awarded with prizes. “Sponsors` help made it possible for us to provide expensive kits. He said Punjab Sports Board Director Anis Sheikh also provided accommodation, food and gymnasium to hold the camp in a befitting manner. Published in Daily Times, August 8th 2018.
