KARACHI: Despite passage of more than three days, the investigators have failed to make any headway in the Sehwan blast case probe. Police were only able to suspiciously trace the suspected suicide bomber with the help of a recording of the CCTV footage. At least 88 people were killed and over 200 injured in a suicide bombing at the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan on Thursday. “The suicide bomber who blew himself at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine has been identified through CCTV footage,” said IGP Sindh Allah Dino Khowaja on Sunday. The top cop, however, was not 100 per cent sure with his own claims. “My department is 99 per cent sure that the man caught on the video footage was the attacker.” Sehwan police had lodged a case on Fridayagainst a suicide bomber and unidentified persons involved in a suicide bombing. The accused remained unidentified. The police, Rangers and intelligence agencies have also detained several suspects including three suspected facilitators during various raids in parts of the Sindh province. IGP Khowaja while addressing a press conference said that the attacker shown in the CCTV footage is also suspected of involvement in the Shikarpur and Jacobabad bombings. “The ‘attacker’ is Hafeez Brohi,” he explained. “Brohi has a strong network of terrorism in Sindh.” The involvement of Hafeez Brohi, a terrorists’ facilitator, cannot be ruled out in the attack since the culprit has an established terror network in the province. IGP Khowaja said that owing to the large crowd present at the time of blast, it had become difficult to identify the suicide bomber. He added that investigations are underway and once completed his department will be able to arrest the culprits, including the facilitators of the terror attack. The video released by Sindh police on Sundayallegedly showed the Sehwan attacker bypassing a security check at the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. The alleged attacker did not wear a burqa.
