The greenback gained slightly higher in the interbank market due to demand by corporate sector for payments abroad. The greenback gained 10 paisas to close at Rs 124 for buying and Rs 124.20 for selling. The difference of the dollar rates between the interbank and kerb markets increased by Rs 1.35 from Rs 1.45 a day earlier. Dollar could not rise sharply despite demand from the corporate sector, as State Bank of Pakistan paid oil import bill. The magnitude of the payment could not be ascertained. The euro remained flat to close at Rs 143.35 for buying and Rs 143.55 for selling. The pound sterling shed 60 paisas to close at Rs 160.38 and Rs 160.58 for buying and selling respectively. Kerb Market: The dollar ended lower in the open currency market owing to its demand from buyers sending money abroad. The dollar closed at Rs 122 for buying and Rs 122.20 for selling after shedding 50 paisas. The pound sterling closed at Rs 154.50 for buying and Rs 154.70 for selling, it gained Rs 1.50 against the rupee. The euro closed at Rs 138.50 for buying and Rs 138.70 for selling.
