LAHORE: Five people were shot dead over an old rivalry in Lahore’s Phullarwan area near Barki earlier this morning (Tuesday). The victims were identified as Arshad, Qurban, and Bashir. All three were brothers and were accompanied by two nephews as they tended to their fields in the early morning. They themselves belonged to one Shatter group which had an old enmity with one Lathi group. The attackers fled the scene shortly. There have been previous incidents of violence between the groups over land disputes. In protest, family members will be bringing the dead bodies and placing them on Mall Road outside Punjab Assembly until the authorities arrest those responsible. After hearing gunshots, locals arrived on the scene and alerted the authorities. Police arrived and sent relevant pieces of evidence for a more comprehensive investigation. The authorities are confident that they will apprehend the murderers soon. DIG Operations Shehzad Akbar has ordered SP Cantt to conduct a speedy and thorough investigation to bring justice to the families.
