SHARJAH: Islamabad United defeated Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets in their Pakistan Super League fixture at Sharjah Stadium here on Saturday night. Defending champions Islamabad, who opted to bowl first, were set a target of 137 by Peshawar. Chasing not so that difficult target, Dwayne Smith hammered an undefeated knock of 72 off 59 balls and guided his team to the finish line courtesy six boundaries and four sixes. It took Islamabad exactly 20 overs to chase down the target, with Amad Butt scoring the winning runs on the last ball of the innings. Shane Watson played a fine innings of 30. Earlier, Eoin Morgan made 28 off 28 balls before falling prey to Shadab Khan. Wahab Riaz made a quick fire 23, which included scoring 21 runs in one over of Watson, but he was soon clean bowled by Mohammad Sami. Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal all got starts, but none went on to make a meaningful contribution. Sami and Rumman Raees were the pick of bowlers for Islamabad. Sami took three wickets at an economy of 6.5 in four overs, while Raees took two scalps at an economy of 4.75 in his allotted quota.
