GUJRANWALA: The anti-corruption department on Friday arrested a Nikkah Registrar for allegedly overwriting a marriage certificate. Reportedly, a woman Nuzhat filed an application with the anti corruption department stating that she married Awais Jamil, who was obliged to pay her 50 tolla of gold at the time of their divorce (dower or Haq Mehr). Meanwhile, following a dispute between them, Awais refused to pay her dower and she filed a writ petition in the court to acquire her dower. However, Awais overwrote the marriage certificate and removed ’50 tolla’ phrase from it by bribing a secretary of union council. After investigation, the anti-corruption authorities arrested the accused. Residents refuse to vacate 100-acre govt land, stage protest Dozens of residents of Haidri underpass area staged a protest on Friday against an investigation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) into an illegal occupation of 100-acre government land which was allocated to build a Zoo. Reportedly, the land was allocated in the past for building a Zoo, but influential groups and landlords of the area occupied it ‘illegally’. Recently, NAB took notice, and sent a team to investigate into the matter. Meanwhile, ahead of expected operation by the district administration to vacate the land, the residents took to the streets and culminated in front of Mayor’s office to protest against the expected crackdown. They claimed that they had purchased the land, and possessed ownership documents issued by the revenue department.
