ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council on Tuesday deferred for an indefinite period proceedings in a case of misconduct against Islamabad High Court’s Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui. Earlier, Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan appeared before the five-member council and submitted documents compiled by special prosecutor Maulvi Anwarul Haq. The AGP said that since he would soon be resigning from office, he would not be able to argue the case even statements of all witnesses were recorded in time. He requested the court to adjourn the hearing until the return of Haq who was expected to be back from his foreign tour by early August. Justice Siddiqui’s counsel, Hamid Khan stated that his client would not be available from August 9 to 22. After hearing both sides, the council adjourned the proceedings for an indefinite period. Also during the hearing, Advocate Tariq Asad appeared before the council and demanded that the Chief Justice of Pakistan should not sit in the council hearing Justice Siddiqui’s case since a misconduct complaint against the former was also pending hearing in the council. On this, Justice Gulzar Ahmad said that no such complaint had reached the council. Published in Daily Times, August 1st 2018.
