University of Health Sciences (UHS) new Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Javed Akram has said that he wanted the varsity to be committed to excellence in both research and academics, to honour its role as the leading health sciences university and to get rid of the image of being an “examining body” only. UHS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Javed Akram was sharing his vision for UHS in his first public event on Monday since taking over as vice chancellor last week. Talking to the media representatives in a Meet the Press programme at UHS, he said the varsity should be the destination of choice for students and faculty as a place of education, of research and of policy. “My prime focus would be making it research intensive. As a research university, UHS has a responsibility to make sure that its research is internationally excellent and nationally important,” he said, adding that one must not shy away from ambition. UHS VC informed that currently around 100 research papers are being produced by the university scholars annually. He resolved to double the number of publications. “We’ll ensure our papers are published in high-index international journals,” he maintained. Professor Dr Javed Akram said that like other institutions of the country, UHS was also facing issues regarding manpower. Published in Daily Times, July 31st 2018.
