Sir: Some months back there were reports that in a massive crackdown large number of pornographic websites had either been deleted altogether or blocked. These reports were duly appreciated by all concerned citizens in the country. But that crackdown was seemingly a onetime exercise or for a limited time period only, as there are hundreds of such explicit websites on which pornographic material in text, photographic and video form is still easily available in abundance. One click on a website and you can get access to all sorts of deplorable material within no time. Decency does not allow me to go into the details as to what exactly these websites contain, however rest assured it is very harmful for the general populace, especially for youngsters with impressionable minds. While they might not be the primary reason behind the rise in sex related crimes in the country, they are certainly amongst the top reasons why such depraved acts have been increasing steadily in our society. This is because internet is easily available everywhere and increasing number of people have access to it, whether in the Urban or rural areas. I am writing this today to ask the concerned officials to crackdown on such pornographic websites, not only for a little while but instead keep a watchful eye on any new ones that might pop up in the future as well. This will ensure that our youth do not accidently stumble across such objectionable material which might cloud their judgment and corrupt their minds. Hopefully, the authorities concerned will not waste any more time and pounce on the remaining pornographic websites available, for the betterment of our society.
