GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala police on Monday finalised a plan to adopt effective security measures on the polling day as 12,000 police officers would be deployed at 1,816 polling stations to monitor law and order situation across the district. Reportedly, the city police officer (CPO) Dr Moeen Masood issued strict directives to the concerned officials during a meeting in his office. “It is our utmost responsibility to implement the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan in its true spirit and essence,” he said, adding that a stern action would be taken against violators. He said that there would be a strict prohibition on arms exhibition, setting off fireworks and aerial firing. He further ordered the officers to coordinate with the polling staffers, as a measure to quickly respond to any case of emergency. In order to ensure smooth movement of traffic on the polling day, he said that all arrangements had been finalised in coordination with the city traffic officer (CTO). He requested citizens to contact the emergency control room (No 055-9200638), established at CPO office in Gujranwala, in case of any mishap. 10-year-old crushed to death A 10-year-old boy was crushed to death on Monday by an auto-rikshaw driver, who lost control at Ladhewala Warraich in Gujranwala. Reportedly, Owais was crossing a road when a speeding rikshaw ran over him, and killed him on the spot. Boy electrocuted to death An eight-year-old boy was electrocuted to death on Monday after coming in contact with a live electric wire. Reportedly, Ali Raza was playing on the roof of his home when he accidently touched a live electric wire. Resultantly, he died on the spot. Published in Daily Times, July 24th 2018.
