Sir: The right to education is denied to countless children in Pakistan, however, the state of literacy, mainly, of females, is dismal in Balochistan with as much 70 percent of girls dropping out of school. According to a recent report, the literacy rate was stagnant at 44 percent in the province. Poverty, unemployment and a poor law and order situation are some reasons behind Balochistan’s educational backwardness and low literacy rate. The increasing fee of privately-run schools also contributes to the low literacy rate in the province. There is also a need to boost the capacity of teachers to improve the quality of education, for which the budget should be increased as well.
