KARACHI: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Sunday assured the protestors, outside the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry, that he will hear their grievances today, while the protestors include those who were served with eviction notices. After a private visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, CJP resumed public interest hearing in SC’s Karachi registry today. Residents of Karachi’s Martin Quarters and FC Area localities, who were served with eviction notices of vacating illegally occupied government residences, were protesting outside the SC. Justice Saqib assured the protestors that he understands their suffering and stated, “I will be hearing the public interest cases till 6 pm today, but for now I have to go to inaugurate a water filtration plant for your benefit.” He further added, “I will come back around noon, you all can come and visit me after 1:30-2pm.” On July 16 those who were served with eviction notices staged a protest outside the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Bahadurabad office. MQM leader Kanwar Naveed Jamil had remarked that the residents had been living in the areas for a long period of time and asking them to leave their place is unjust.
