Due to monsoon season, there are strong possibilities for an increase in dengue larva breeding, so all field officers should play their active role in dengue surveillance. Primary & Secondary Healthcare Secretary Ali Bahadur Qazi expressed these views while addressing a video link meeting on Friday, regarding dengue control, polio, measles, routine immunisation coverage and medical relief activities related to expected flood. He directed to boost up surveillance activities and larvaciding in union councils and towns of high risk districts including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and Gujranwala. He ordered all the chief executive officers to recruit contingent paid staff on daily wages only for dengue season which helps to improve surveillance. He said that caretaker government is taking all possible steps for dengue control and completing all necessary arrangements for expected flood. Special Secretary Health Dr Ayesha Masood, Additional Secretary Dr Shahnaz Naseem, Health Services Director Dr Saddain, focal person Dr Munir Ahmed, Dengue Control Programme Director Dr Yadullah, Central Depository Company Director Dr Saeed, Health Lahore CEO and officers from health department were also present. Ali Bahadur Qazi added that there is no ban on recruitment on vacant posts on adhoc bases for medical officers and consultants so department should immediately fulfil these recruitments in all health facilities. The health secretary directed to improve coverage of routine immunisation, measles and polio. He also directed low performing districts to improve their working. He also reviewed availability of medicines stock in health facilities and other necessary arrangements for expected flood. Dr Munir Ahmed briefed the participants that department has constituted 1,267 fixed and mobile teams, consist upon a doctor, lady health visitor, vaccinator and support staff to provide relief to the public in the flood relief camps.
