KARACHI: Adviser to interim Sindh government, Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz said that general elections would be held on time. During a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Haris Nawaz said that the Election Commission of Pakistan was investing all its efforts in holding a ‘fair, free and transparent’ general election 2018. “We will not tolerate any tactic or attempt delaying holding of election from any quarter,” he asserted. He informed the media that 19,298 polling stations had been set up in Sindh including Karachi with the facility of close circuit TV cameras, which were rented for Rs 600 million (mn) till the day of general election from National Radio Telecommunication Corporation. He said that 30 percent of cameras would be handed over to Sindh government. He also informed that all video clips would be safely transported to Election Commission of Pakistan office Islamabad. “Sanitation, water and power restoration facility on going work at remaining 892 polling stations in Sindh including Karachi would be ready by July 23, 2018,” he added. He informed the media that around 2,000 Ranger personnel along with police would support Army personnel on Election Day’s duty. During the press conference, Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz advised the contesting candidates to strictly follow election code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). “Print and electronic media should also show their respective responsibilities in bringing out report besides guiding voters,” added Haris Nawaz.
