If there is someone you cannot deny the presence of, it is Mawra Hocane. She is widely known for her breakthrough characters in many acclaimed dramas and films. This year, she is firing things up in Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 opposite Fahad Mustafa and Humayun Saeed and the period drama Aangan. In an insightful conversation, Mawra talks to Daily Times about life, her dream co-actorand of course, fashion! How were you discovered as an actor? I was discovered in theater as a teenager in Islamabad but I discovered the actor in myself in India. Now, I take it very seriously and want to improve with every project. What undisclosed fact would you like share about yourself? Maybe I will disclose that when I write a book one day! How do you normally begin your day? My ideal day has to start with morning tea, followed by breakfast and a good workout but most of my days begin at sets because of early call times. The actor says if you are a peaceful sleeper without any regrets or guilt, you have a good life. “Inner beauty means everything to me. Outer beauty is flattering but it is temporary” You are the star of this year’s film ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2.’ What can readers learn from the storyline and your character? Was watching the first film an important part for your preparation? My preparation included reading the script and delivering my best with honesty. I am a director’s actor and conviction on screen is directly proportionate to my faith in my director. Nadeem and I had a great equation and hopefully, not just my character but the entire film shall entertain people. I am most excited about my chemistry with Fahad on screen. We have some fun songs to share with you too! Is Bollywood on the horizon for you this year? You never know. I am fully consumed by Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and Aangan right now. Let’s see what is next! What best describes Bollywood? Amazing songs and effective storytelling. Do you think Lollywood needs its own identity as a growing fashion and entertainment industry instead of mimicking Bollywood? We need lesser scrutiny. The comparisons made are absurd. It is not about Lollywood, Bollywood or Hollywood. It has to be about entertaining the audience. Have you binge watched any season recently? I binge watched ‘Game of Thrones’ last year. I haven’t found time to watch anything recently. Which three things set your mood off? Dishonesty, insecurity and cowardice Do you believe in affordable fashion? Yes – one should not follow the crowd. Do what is feasible as we are living in a time where thankfully there is no set fashion. Everyone has the liberty to set their own fashion trends. Have you ever experienced a fashion fiasco? None so far, thankfully! Which international magazine would you like to cover shoot for? Vogue or Time What qualities would you want in a life partner? I would want him to be very passionate about something in life. I have a lot of respect for people who are driven towards their goals. What is your view on life and beauty? Do you think women empowerment is no longer an issue in Pakistan? Is it a cliché? It is a prevailing issue and no, it is not a cliché; it is subjective. The problem is often misused and underused.
