GUJRANWALA: During toughest crackdown against corruption in years, the anti-corruption department has detained more than 300 suspects in the January-July period of 2018, including government officers for maladministration and their alleged involvement in corruption and successfully recovered approximately Rs 170 million from their possession, according to a report issued by the department on Wednesday. The statistics further showed that in total 1,050 enquiries were carried out while 318 suspects including 15 proclaimed offenders and 26 Gazetted officers were arrested during raids by the anti-corruption teams. The authorities lodged 123 cases against the suspects. Meanwhile, the anti-corruption director Fareed Ahmed asserted that the department had issued strict directives to all circle officers to wage a fierce crackdown against corruption and maladministration. “In our department, there is no room for corrupt and lazy officers,” he said adding that many officers were dismissed on the basis of corruption. Man dies, another sustains injuries in wall collapse A man lost his life while another man sustained critical injuries after being buried under the debris of collapsed wall of a building in Khokherki area of Gujranwala. Reportedly, two labourers namely Younas and Amjad were working in a factory when a wall of a nearby building collapsed.
