KHYBER: A custom official on Wednesday foiled a bid to smuggle a large cache of arms from Afghanistan via Torkham border while impounding his truck. Reportedly, effective border monitoring measures were adopted near Torkham after the security officials received a tip-off that a large cache of arms and ammunition would be smuggled to Pakistan. Meanwhile, a cucumber-loaded truck was inspected by the security officials, which contained 305 Turkish-made guns. Consequently, Ibad Gul, an Afghan national, was arrested on the spot and a case was lodged against him. Further investigation is underway. Importantly, the vehicle had successfully crossed all the checkpoints of the Frontier Corps (FC) and Khasadar troops. Published in Daily Times, July 19th 2018.
