ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Pervaiz Rasheed asserted on Tuesday that it was former premier Nawaz Sharif’s legal right to be present in court during the proceedings of cases filed against him. PML-N party supremo was not present in court today during the hearing of a corruption case against him. Pervaiz Rasheed further said that before imprisonment, Nawaz was even summoned twice a day at court last year and thereby his absence from his own case doesn’t make much sense. Rasheed added that the people of Pakistan demand an answer from the courts. He also elaborated that their lawyers have filed appeals in court and they are hopeful that their appeals will be heard at the same speed as the proceedings of the case leading to the verdict were at. He went on to say that no politician had been witch hunted in this manner in the country’s history. The PML-N senator also kept on reiterating that on multiple instances through out the country’s history, many people remained free of imprisonment despite legal warrants for their respective arrests. The Accountability Court, however, adjourned the case earlier this morning in order to wait for the High Court’s decision regarding the Sharif family’s appeal against the Avenfield case.
