The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has impounded 2,646 public service vehicles for over-charging, misconduct with passengers, accommodating men on women’s seats and over-loading, a police spokesman said on Monday. He said that Traffic Senior Superintendent Police Farrukh Rasheed directed for strict action against those PSVs involved in violating traffic rules. A massive crackdown was started and Islamabad police took action against 149,570 PSVs besides impounding 2,646 PSVs during this year for over-charging, misconduct with passengers, accommodating males at women seats and students sitting at roof tops. The SSP said that ITP has constituted special squads to curb such violations who are performing duties at various roads, avenues and boulevards. He said those PSVs drivers involved in overloading, misbehaviour and overcharging for more than one time would have to face action through cancellation of route permits. Traffic SSP Farrukh Rasheed maintained that purpose of this action is to ensure convenience to citizens who have to commute daily form one place to other at public transport. He said that directions have been issued to drivers to place fare list in vehicles and citizens can lodge their complaints at ITP helpline. Published in Daily Times, July 17th 2018.
