Punjab Police have registered 130 cases against 17,606 workers of different political parties and independent candidates for violating the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan. According to details, police have registered cases against 39 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, 16,868 Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers, 654 workers of other political parties as well as independents. Moreover, the provincial police chief has directed all the RPOs, DPOs and CPOs along with Lahore CCPO to ensure transparency in their respective districts and regions during the election process. “We will continue to take non-discriminatory actions against those who will violate the code of conduct and that all the RPOs and DPOs should ensure the implementation of the code of conduct in their regions and districts,” the inspector general said. He added that free and fair elections under peaceful environment in the province was the top priority of Punjab Police and for that purpose, all the available resources were being utilised. “Actions will continue to take place against those who will try to violate the law and for that purpose, effective patrolling of Dolphin Force, PERU, and other patrolling forces has been ensured.” He continued: “We will ensure the safety of political representatives, polling processions, corner meetings and other political gatherings.” Published in Daily Times, July 16th 2018.
