The Minimum Wages Board has proposed to increase rate of wages proportionally by 15 percent with effect from July 1, 2018 of categories of skilled, semi-skilled and highly skilled workforce employed in 41 categories of industries. According to a statement, the step has been taken in the light of Labour Department Sindh notification L-II-13-3/2016/01, August 24, 2017. The department has also sought advises and objections/suggestions of concerned industries, if any, that could be sent to Board officewithin 30 days by August 10, 2018. This has already been notified in Extra Ordinary Gazette of Sindh government on July 9, 2018. Industries include cement, ceramic, cotton ginning and pressing, chemical and allied industry, construction, bicycle, electric appliances, machine-made carpet, machinery, paints and varnish, paper product, petroleum, pharmaceutical, plastic, printing press, readymade garments, rice husking, road transport, rubber, silk rayon small units and power loom, soap manufacturing, sugar, tannery, textile, tobacco, flour milling, auto workshop and garages, bidi binding industry, brick kiln, bus body building industry, food, furniture and woodwork, glass, hotel, iron steel and fabricated metal, transport equipment, beverage, hosiery, leather goods, footwear, ice and cold storage and dairy products.
