Taapsee Pannu made her debut in Bollywood in Amitabh Bachan starrer Piku. She is now going to be starred in Mulk alongside Rishi Kapoor. The Piku actress is playing the role of a lawyer in Mulk. She is dealing with a client who is being trapped in a treason allegation because of his religion and Pannu is determined to clear the allegation. Pannu, at the launch of the trailer, said, ‘disturbing that a particular religion is targeted like that.’ She also said that her life is also affected by it, The Indian Express. She was asked about the community being targeted to which she said, “It’s very disturbing. I’ll give you an example from my own life. My manager is a Muslim, my driver, my house help are Muslims.” She continued, “If I were to feel disturbed in their presence then I would be disturbed whole day and night because my life is run by them. It’s very disturbing to realise that a particular religion is being targeted.” She further added, “These people are inseparable to me. So this was a big reason for me to do the film. I thought if someone has to stand up then I would like to take that responsibility. This fear and this disturbance in my mind, I vented it all out through this film.” She also shared that the main message of the movie revolves around religious discrimination. “This is not the government’s matter to address, it is ours. That’s what we are trying to express in the film and whatever dialogues I have said in the film I have done it with all my heart. So, I hope when the film releases on August 3, and the audience watches the film, they will be able to understand how we all feel about this issue,” she said. The director of the movie, Anubhav Shukla, added, “When we started the film it looked against the tide but the kind of comments we are receiving I am happy that I made it. It’s not about Hindu-Muslims, we have had these clashes before. It’s such a diverse country, everybody has fought everybody. Hindus have fought Muslims, Sikhs have fought Hindus, Shias have fought Sunnis, Brahmins have fought Thakurs. So it goes on in our country.” The movie also stars Rajat Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, and Ashrut Abhinandan. Mulk is all set to release on August 3.
