The Islamabad district administration on Sunday issued notices to former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for allegedly violating the electoral code of conduct. Thirteen other candidates were also served notices for breaking election rules related to advertising campaigns set by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Candidates who have been warned included Asad Omar, Shakeel Anjum, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Mian Aslam, Zubair Farooq, Chaudhry Rizwan Saifi, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Afzal Khokhar, Imran Ashraf, Muhammad Amjad Chaudhry and Syed Sibtul Hasan Shah. Reports suggested that the district administration had given the candidates a 24-hour deadline to remove the advertisements for which they had been warned. The administration said that a case would be forwarded to ECP to consider legal action against candidates who did not comply with the order. The ECP has deputed special monitoring officers to ensure that the rules for elections are followed, and has tasked them to compile reports on the violations. Published in Daily Times, July 9th 2018.
