GUJRANWALA: The Commissioner Asadullah Faiz on Sunday inaugurated a three-day sports gala at sports gymnasium mini stadium in Gujranwala and motivated the students of participating schools to take part in extracurricular activities. “Sports promote sportsmanship, team spirit and enhance mental and physical fitness,” he said. The deputy commissioner Dr Shoaib Tariq, the arts council deputy director Atiq-ur-Rehman, programe officer Dr Haleem, divisional sports officer Nadeem Butt, district sports officer Rana Shaukat, principals, teachers and students of various schools were present on the occasion. For Presentation of the Flag, the students of Higher Secondary School marched while other students exhibited athleticism of Gymnastics and Yoga. Dozens of students would be participating in badminton, athletics, table tennis, gymnastics and hockey competitions. Youth commits suicide A 24-year-old youth on Sunday allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train on Lahore-Rawalpindi railway track near Nigar Phatak in Gujranwala. According to passersby, Ahmed Ali, a resident of Mujahid Pura, suddenly jumped before a train. Consequently, he was crushed to death. Man shoots, injures brother over property dispute A man shot and injured by his younger brother after a brawl erupted over a property dispute in Ladhe Wala Warriach town of Gujranwala district. Reportedly, Farooq quarreled with Yousaf and opened fire on him during a fit of rage. Resultantly, he received severe bullet injuries and was rushed to DHQ Hospital. The area police have started investigation into the incident. Villagers thrash three suspects for attempting to steal livestock The villagers assaulted three suspects severely for allegedly stealing goats in Ladhe Wala Warriach town of Gujranwala district. Reportedly, the goats of Muhammad Bashir were grazing in the fields when three accused including Mudassar Iqbal, Muhammad Farooq and Salman attempted to steal them.
